Our Director
Hi, I'm Julann Tiernan
I am the Director of Tiernan Family Law but I am also lots of other things too. I am a mother of five, a wife, previously divorced and was once a Police Officer. Since becoming a lawyer, I have only ever worked in Family Law. From my own personal experience, I know what it is like to feel lost at sea during separation and divorce, with rising legal fees adding to my distress. This shaped the divorce lawyer – and the person – I am today and it is the reason I started Tiernan Family Law.
I am more than a divorce lawyer – I am an Accredited Family Specialist lawyer, which means I have been recognised as an expert in the field. Family Law is all I do and have worked only in this area for over twelve years now. I have come to recognise that most families going through separation and divorce do so because they want to move on and be happy, not to stay in the fight. For that reason, our firm is entirely resolution focussed, offering alternative pathways to Court including mediation. I work with families to guide them towards a kinder, more collaborative outcome to protect the family unit and your children from conflict.
Whilst I developed Tiernan Family Law as an entirely virtual law firm at the start, to make family law legal assistance more accessible to everyone, we now have warm and inviting offices for face to face meetings, at Bundall, Gold Coast and at South Brisbane. Of course, we still offer online appointments to assist clients all over Australia.

Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist
Being an Accredited Specialist in Family Law is something pretty special.
To gain this accreditation from the Queensland Law Society in 2017, I had to undertake very specialised training and assessments to become recognised as an expert in my field. I practice only in Family Law which is a highly specialised area of law. Each year, I have to maintain this accreditation by undertaking further and ongoing training and education to stay up to date with the ever-evolving legal landscape of family law. You can rest assured that this symbol means that I am devoted to family law more than most and I take great pride in specialising in this interesting, challenging and rewarding area of law.
